We are not eligible for support from SVA. What other support is available?
SVA works in partnership with other social enterprise development organisations. The organisations listed below may be able to provide you with additional advice and support:
Social Firms Australia exist to support the development of social firms, which are a specific type of social enterprise focused on creating employment for people with a disability or mental illness.
Social Traders is a new social enterprise development organisations based in Victoria. Their website contains a host of resources and guidance on social enterprise development.
The Centre for Social Impact is a partnership between Melbourne Business School, the Australian School of Business at UNSW, and the Faculty of Business and Enterprise at the Swinburne University of Technology. CSI’s mission is to educate tomorrow’s social entrepreneurs and strengthen today’s social enterprises.

We are interested in partnering with SVA to develop a social enterprise, how do we find out more?

We are looking for training in social enterprise development, do you provide this?
Yes, we have a series of training courses that we can offer or adapt for specific situations. These courses are offered on a ‘fee-for-service’ cost recovery basis. Contact Kevin Robbie for details.

What investment opportunities are there through the Hubs?
The Hubs are a place based response to delivering business support to enable social enterprises to develop, start-up or grow. Organisations that are supported must be creating jobs in the local area.
Depending on the local partners, the Hubs occasionally have some small scale funding to invest alongside their development support. This varies across each of the Hubs. For more information please contact your local Hub representative.

What will the funding SVA received through the Jobs Fund be used for?
SVA has been working with over 20 social enterprises in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Western Sydney. Our funding from the Jobs Fund will allow us, through the Supporting Social Enterprises Project, to invest in those social enterprises to retain existing jobs or create new jobs and support them to increase sustainability. Can we apply for an investment from your Jobs Fund funding?
The investments from our Supporting Social Enterprises Project will go to organisations that we have already been working with, in terms of assisting them to grow and develop their business.

We would like to develop a Social Enterprise Hub for our area. How do I go about it?
SVA is focusing on developing our existing Hubs and delivering the outcomes from our from our Supporting Social Enterprises Project. We do not have plans to expand our existing Hubs into other areas. Where local partners are interested in developing a Hub in their area, SVA will be able to provide background advice and assistance and share the lessons we have learned in the development of our own Hubs. How do I apply for the Queensland Inclusive Social Enterprises project?
If you answer yes to the following questions you may be eligible to apply for support and investment through the QISE project.
- Is your social enterprise based in Queensland?
- Does your social enterprise sell (or intend to sell) a product or service?
- Can you provide evidence of intention, capacity and methodology of employing people with mental health issues in real work for real pay?
- Is your social enterprise a not-for-personal profit entity such that no profits are distributed to individuals but are re-invested back into the social enterprise?
- Can your organisation demonstrate a long-term commitment to developing a social enterprise?
